Artist of the Month: Ry X (June 2024)
Australian musician, producer singer, and songwriter Ry Cumming - now performing under the stage name, Ry X - first gained attention in 2010 with the release of his debut self-titled album under his real name.
His breakthrough came with the release of his single Berlin in 2013. The song, characterised by its minimalist instrumentation and Ry X's distinctive falsetto, received much acclaim from critics.
Since then, he has continued to experiment with his musical output, exploring themes of love, loss, and introspection, transitioning from a more acoustic, folksy sound to incorporate experimental electronic beats & textures.
Described as haunting, emotional, and deeply personal, Ry X’s use of sparse instrumentation, usually an acoustic guitar, some piano, and subtle electronic elements, has created an intimate and immersive listening experience. The GRAMMY-nominee has been praised for his ability to produce powerful emotional connections with his audiences through his music.

In recent years, he has also collaborated with electronic producer Frank Wiedemann. Their work includes the albums Sacred Ground (2015) and Colure (2020).
Ry X was also a collaborator on Black Coffee’s GRAMMY-wiining album, Subconciously. He has previously appeared on tracks by Duke Dumont, Diplo and ODESZA, and was commissioned to remix Rihanna’s track Love on the Brain.
