Venue Spotlight: Concorde 2
Based on Brighton’s scenic seafront, Concorde 2 is a historic, exciting and…slightly unusual music venue. A Victorian building, Concorde 2 was many things before it became a hub for music in Brighton, but now the focus is solely on incredible shows and, boy, is there a lot to look forward to over the next year at this venue.
Having recently opened their new web shop with Eventim, we wanted to get know to this venue a bit more, so caught up with Venue Administrator Seb on what makes this place just so unique…
A glowing review
Did you know that Concorde 2 was once described as ‘the perfect venue’ by Dave Grohl from The Foo Fighters?!
Home to incredible shows
Concorde 2 has hosted unforgettable performances from globally recognised bands, solo artists and DJs such as The Foo Fighters, Amy Winehouse, Carl Cox, Florence & The Machine, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Ellie Goulding, Boy George, Jarvis Cocker and Fatboy Slim! There’s a whole host of exciting shows in the future to look forward to, too…
In the beginning
The building itself was first used as a tea rooms in the 1800’s, before being used as a notorious bikers café in the 60’s and an amusement arcade in the 70’s. It came to fulfil its full potential as a live music venue on New Year’s Eve 1999, when Fatboy Slim set the bar with a mind-blowing performance.
Soundcheck with an audience
We have a lift in the middle of the venue that comes from the top of the street into the main room. This was open during the summer and would allow people to have access to the beach. Sadly this has now been decommissioned by the council, but it was running until last summer. This meant people would walk through the venue when we had sound checking going on…You’re not gonna get this in any other venue!
A raving ghost
There’s a ghost in the venue that the Concorde 2 team call Albert. He lives in the basement and is a big DNB fan…
Unmissable gigs
With so many brilliant gigs coming up, we had to ask Seb the shows he’s most looking forward to at the venue soon…
86TVs
I was a massive Maccabees fan so to have two of the members playing in my work is just mind blowing. The new singles sound great and honestly can not wait to hear them live.
Jalen Ngonda
Jalen supported Thee Sacred Souls here at the start of the year and I was blown away. Since then his album has come out and it's just brilliant. Will definitely be one not to miss.
